I tried Madcow this week with my 3x5 numbers put in as my 8RM to the calculator, did the lifts and found them pretty hard (at least bench). Then I decided to see if I could get anything out of linear progression, so I took a few weeks working up on SS (I think I made gains, but it was hard to tell with the 3x5 not being comparable to the 5RM I did before). On top of that, Monday's volume was just too crazy in comparison to the other days, and I couldn't stand deadlifting after 5x5 sets across squats. This, with other stuff I read, made me think it was for the higher end of intermediate, when I'm at the lower end. I did it for a week or two, then realised that the progression was slower than Madcow, with your squat increasing 5lb a week and BP/OHP 5lb every two weeks. I wanted to do a strength program, so I started with TM. I actually tried that for a week when I was floundering around realising that the strength progress on the split I was doing had been grinding to a halt over the past while. ![]()
